ISEL reinforces its commitment to pedagogical innovation and open access to knowledge by offering its first free online courses in the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) format. Promoted by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL), this initiative is part of the PRODIGI: Rumo ao Futuro - Programa de Formação em PROgramação, Informação e Cidadania DIGItal, which aims to promote digital skills in the area of education.Launched between March and April 2025, ISEL MOOCs have seen significant uptake in a short space of time. The Database Fundamentals course, taught by Professor Nuno Leite (DEETC/ISEL), has already surpassed 400 registrants, while the Data Structures course, taught by Professor Cátia Vaz (DEETC/ISEL), has more than 200 participants. The Polytechnic of Lisbon participated in the Salão do Estudante 2025, the largest international education fair in Latin America, which took place from April 5 to 16, 2025 in six cities in Brazil. The presence of the IPL was part of the mission organized by the Coordinating Council of Higher Polytechnic Institutes (CCISP), with the seal “Portugal Polytechnic Universities”, with the aim of promoting the training offer of Portuguese polytechnic institutions among Brazilian students.The Salon passed through São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro (Copacabana and Barra da Tijuca), Brasília, Salvador, Recife and Maceió, allowing direct contact with hundreds of young people interested in studying in Portugal.The Polytechnic of Lisbon was present with an information stand, where it presented its courses, application conditions, mobility programs and support for international students. The Lisbon Polytechnic delegation included the vice-president of the Lisbon Polytechnic, Maria Carlos Annes; the IPL Communications Manager, Vanessa Glória, the ISEL External Relations Service Manager, Susana Teque, the ESCS Communications Manager, Marcos Melo and the senior technician of the ISCAL Communications Office, Filipe Inteiro.In addition to participating in the fair, the mission included institutional visits and networking moments with Brazilian educational institutions. In São Paulo, IPL representatives participated in an action with students from Centro Paula Souza and were present at the official reception promoted by the Consulate General of Portugal, with interventions from the Directorate General of Higher Education and the Erasmus+ National Agency. In Rio de Janeiro, the delegation participated in a session with the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and REARI-RJ – International Advisory Network of Universities of Rio de Janeiro.The presence of the Polytechnic of Lisbon in Brazil is part of its internationalization strategy and reinforces its commitment to cooperation with higher education institutions and networks in Portuguese-speaking countries, promoting access to Portuguese higher education for students from different regions.MFC/GCI Text
Between March 26th and 29th, ISEL was present at Futurália 2025, the largest national fair focused on education, training and employability.Integrated into the Polytechnic of Lisbon stand, ISEL stood out due to the enthusiasm and dedication of around two hundred volunteers, who, over the four days of the event, presented the institution's vast educational offering, the atmosphere on campus and details of the various courses to thousands of visitors.The ISEL External Relations Service (SREI), promoter of the event at ISEL, organized and streamlined the distribution of merchandising, in a special moment also marked by the launch of the institute's new visual identity, reinforcing its image among future students.At the same time, SREI was also present at the Graduate Fair — Executive Training, where it presented the master's and postgraduate training offerings, showing the opportunities for specialization and professional development that the institution offers.
ISEL was present at the International Construction Fair, Tektónica 2025, which took place between April 10th and 12th at FIL, in Lisbon. Professor Alexandra Costa, Vice-President of ISEL for Infrastructure and Equipment and professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, was part of the judging panel for the Tektónica Innovation Award 2025, and had the honor of presenting one of the awards.The award, held annually, distinguishes products, solutions and services that stand out for their innovation, sustainability and applicability in the construction sector. The 2025 edition had the participation of dozens of companies and projects, distributed in different categories, such as Bath, Kitchen, External Equipment, Energy Efficiency, New Materials, among others.Professor Alexandra Costa was responsible for delivering the award in the "Machinery and Equipment" category, granted to the company Nacionalrev, Lda for its innovative I.GEO BOX solution, developed to combat capillary humidity in buildings. On March 26, the Electrical Machines Laboratory of the Department of Electrical, Energy and Automation Engineering (DEEEA/ISEL) received a visit from students from CENFIC in Prior Velho, in order to give a practical class on the diversity of electric motor solutions and their applications.This visit, promoted by ISEL alumnus and professor of the subject of Rotating Electrical Machines at CENFIC, Marco Santos, was supported by professor Armando Cordeiro (President of DEEEA/ISEL), and was led by professor Pedro Fonte (DEEEA/ISEL) and professor Ricardo Luís (DEEEA/ISEL).The class was demonstrative in nature and focused on AC and DC electrical machines and their relevance in electrical power systems and industrial applications.The entire visit to the laboratory was a success and sparked great interest among the students.
On April 3, Professor José Simão (DEETC/ISEL) represented ISEL at the workshop "Success factors of the mobility ecosystem in a new dynamic of the cities of the future – people, organizations, resources" integrated in the Alenquer 2025 Business Forum, at the invitation of the President of the IDESCOM Association, Dr. Isabel Soares Carneiro.During the session, Professor José Simão presented the ongoing project "Platform for the Management and Operation of Multimodal Transport Networks", developed within the scope of the consortium Alliance for Energy Transition (ATE). This innovative platform aims to optimize urban mobility through the integrated management of multimodal transport, currently covering buses and trains, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and the passenger experience.ISEL participates in this project by contributing to the definition of the architecture of the system for collecting passenger counting data in different vehicles and multimodal stations, as well as for the processing and real-time provision of this data on a central platform.ATE project grantee and MEIC student João Cravo is currently integrating new contextual data, such as weather and traffic conditions, with a view to using vehicle occupancy prediction models to improve the operation of the transport network. This work by student João Cravo is also one of the contributions of his ongoing dissertation, co-supervised by Professor Matilde Pato (DEETC/ISEL). Participation in this workshop reinforced the importance of technological innovation and collaboration between academic entities, municipalities and companies for a more sustainable future in urban mobility.More information
